The Great Scam of '26

Y’know, I was sort of wondering what the next thing I’d write about was since summer break is coming, but I was not expecting this.

That day had been, by and large, completely ordinary thus far. I was eating lunch and talking to Dixie in the back of the choir room, in the middle of showing her a song cover I enjoyed, when my mom texted me.

Are you at school?

Yes

And so I did. I figured she was just being overly worried about me, assuming that, like I’d been doing earlier in the year, I was skipping one of my classes. Then, hurriedly the principal and one of the women who work in the office entered the room.

“Are you Henry [lastname]?” Henry is my dead name and, unfortunately, the name on all my official documentation, for context.

“Yes?”

The principal left, and the office woman was told to stay in the back room with me and Dixie. Dixie, the office woman, and I had no context as to why she needed to watch me, but I’d assumed that my mom had called the school and told them to go find me, which was annoying, but nothing completely out of character for her. Maybe she was driving and saw someone on the side of the road which resembled me or something like that.

The three of us sat in that room for a good few minutes, awkwardly making conversation with each other. Then, after a bit, the principal returned and told the office lady and I to follow her. Dixie trailed along too since she was just as curious about what was going on as we were.

As we walked, the principal told the office lady that there was an officer coming to the school, to which Dixie and I were shocked. I pondered a bit, and eventually figured out what had happened. In fourth period, I was bored and decided I wanted to check my phone. Unfortunately for me, however, I was unable to find a good time to
